Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get accepted into the Honor Band Program?

All students will be accepted based on their band director’s recommendation or by special invitation from the Honor Band Program. Once you register and pay tuition, you are in!

Do we still have to submit an audition recording to be accepted to the program?

Not anymore. The merits of your teacher recommendation will suffice.  However, if you are currently in grades 8-11 (high school next year), you will still need to submit a recording so that we can place you in the appropriate ensemble since there are two in the high school.

Where can I find the audition etudes for the Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble?

Right here! (click below)

Audition Etudes

What about seating?

For Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band, the above referenced etude will also determine seating. For 6th Grade Band and Concert Band, once you are registered, we will send you a small excerpt of music for you to record and submit to determine seating.

How do I receive seating/placement results and ensemble music?

We will email your music along with a concert roster once we have listened to all of the recordings.  Usually by the first week in August. If you do not hear from us by then, we encourage you to contact us at: hudsonvalleyhonorbands@gmail.com

When is tuition due?

When you register. Registration deadline is Friday, June 10, 2022.

Are there any scholarship opportunities available?

Yes! If you were accepted into Nationals, All-Eastern, All-State, or as an alternate for All-State, upon acceptance into the program, you are eligible for a $50 scholarship towards tuition. Also, there is a scholarship for siblings attending the program. Siblings will receive a $20 tuition discount (per student) to help families who are paying tuition for multiple students.

How do I receive my scholarship?

Students being awarded a scholarship will receive a check. Please bring your Nationals, All-Eastern, All-State, or alternate for All-State acceptance letter to the first rehearsal.

Can I get my tuition refunded if I drop out or am removed from the program?

Only if you do so before the program begins. Once rehearsals start, there will be no refunds offered.

Am I allowed to miss any rehearsals?

We prefer that you attend all of the rehearsals. However, you may be excused from one rehearsal without penalty. Any beyond that may result in a performance evaluation and removal from the program.

How much are tickets to the concert?

All concerts for the Fall 2022 Honor Band Season will be free and open to the public.

What are we supposed to wear for the concert?

6th Grade Band, Concert Band and Symphonic Band performers are to wear white tops, black pants or  gown length skirts, black socks and stockings, and black shoes.

Wind Ensemble performers are to wear black tuxedos (or a black suit) with a black bow-tie, black socks and black shoes for the men; and all black gown length dresses or black pants and a black blouse, black leggings and black shoes for the women.

Where are the rehearsals and concerts?

The first rehearsals are at the Monroe-Woodbury High School in the Music Suite on the B level. Enter the building through the front doors, proceed down the stairs and to the right.

Where can I find the concert information?

Click on "Schedule" on the tabs at the top of the page. Check the page for the concert information (listed under each ensemble's calendar).

Do percussionists have to bring any equipment to rehearsals?

We will provide all percussion instruments, however, student percussionists need to bring their own sticks and or mallets (including timpani mallets).
